Creating content

Modules are used to organize content by grouping documents and sub-modules. They are analogous to folders/directories on a PC/Mac.

To create module proceed as follows.

  1. Select the directory element inside which you want to create the module (in the example shown in this Figure it is 'Connected Dreams / Origin') by hovering your mouse over it and performing a Mouse Click.
  2. Context Menu → Insert Module.

After creating a new module, it will be given the name 'New Module' together with a timestamp as shown in this Figure.

There are two ways in which directory items can be named:

  1. Approach 1 to naming directory items: inline editing
  2. Approach 2 to naming directory items: using the property editor

Approach 1 to naming directory items: inline editing

  1. Mouse Click on the name / line which you want to rename.
  2. Wait for one second ore more.
  3. Mouse ClickClick on the same name again. Now a thin blue line will be shown and the current text will be highlighted as shown in this Figure.
  4. Type the wanted name (or place the caret at the place you want to perform edits and insert text there).

Approach 2 to naming directory items: using the property editor

  1. Mouse Clickon the name / line you want to rename.
  2. Context Menu → Properties And Access → Edit Properties... A new 'Module properties' tab will open as shown in this Figure.
  3. Mouse Clickin the field under Title.
  4. Typethe wanted name.

Uploading existing content (PDF, images, ...) into a module

Existing files (on your PC or Mac) can either uploaded by dragging them onto a module:

  1. Hover mouse over source file in OS (Windows/Linux/OS-X), then Mouse Down(keep pressed)
  2. Mouse Drag (keep pressed) over the module in which you want to place the file. The module with its existing content will be colored as shown in this Figure.
  3. Release the mouse button when hovering over the target module: Mouse Up

Metadata for uploaded files is optional. It is used in the 'External References' list of documents: It is used to show e.g., the author name and the publication year (see Linking to external content with an URL).

After a file as been uploaded metadata can be set using the Properties Editor as follows:

  1. Mouse Clickon the file for which you want to set the meta data.
  2. Context Menu → Properties And Access → Edit Properties... A properties editor for setting metadata will appear as shown in this Figure
  3. Click the mouse in the appropriate cell and enter the meta data.

To actually show the meta data, use a Document with an External reference table and make a reference to the document as explained in Linking to external content with an URL.

To create a Document proceed, first navigate to the Directory browser, then:

  1. Select the directory element inside which you want to create the document by performing aMouse Clickon it.
  2. Context Menu → New Document → [object Object]

If you want the most flexible document in which you can freely type then use Document (General Purpose)as Document Type.

In order to edit a document open it using a Mouse Double Clickin the Directory Browser. This will open a tab in which you can type as shown in this Figure.

To insert text into a document:

  1. Place the caret where you want to insert the element (using the cursor keys or a Mouse Click)
  2. Type text

To style text:

  1. Select a fragment using the mouse or using the cursor keys, with the Shiftkeyboard button pressed.
  2. Use one of the styling buttons in the toolbar or:
    1. For bold: Ctrl-B(Windows/Linux) or ⌘-B(Mac).
    2. For italics: Ctrl-I(Windows/Linux) or ⌘-I(Mac).
    3. For underline: Ctrl-U(Windows/Linux) or ⌘-U(Mac).

Inserting elements (structured content) in a Document

To add structured content to a document:

  1. Place the caret where you want to insert the element (using the cursor keys or a Mouse Click)
  2. Context Menu → [object Object]

When opening the context menu in a document:

  1. The most commonly used elements are shown at the top of the list.
  2. List related elements and operations are shown underList →
  3. Table related elements and operations are shown under Table →
  4. Various special (less commonly needed) elements are shown under Special →

NOTE: The available elements that are shown depends heavily on the context and also on the installed templates.

Inserting images and other attachments in a document

To insert images and other attachment proceed in a way similar to Uploading existing content (PDF, images, ...) into a module, except now you drop them in the document at a place where the cursor can be placed.
